Whenever Italians compete at an international event such as the World Cup or the UCI Road World Championships they create their own little slice of Italy, known as the Spazio Azzurri or blue space, named after the famous blue jerseys worn by the Italian national team.
Claudio Parente Events Manager at the Italian Chamber of Commerce is responsible for setting up the Spazio Azzurri at the Geelong West Town Hall.

After Giro d’Italia, the SMP Saddles is present also on the biggest stage of the world cycling.
The characteristic saddle, made absolutely in Italy, has flown to Rotterdam in Holland, for the 97th Tour de France. It will travel together with the group until the Champs-Élysées of Paris, thanks to the Pro Tour Footon-Servetto-Fuji team .
The “golden” team guided by Joxean Fernández Matxin and Sabino Angoitia sees together the following nine “magnificent ones”, all of them beginners: Italian Eros Capecchi and Fabio Felline, Spanish Aitor Pérez Arrieta, Alberto Benítez, Arkaitz Durán, Iban Mayoz and Rafael Valls, Portuguese Manuel Cardoso and Austrian Markus Eibegger.

Iban Mayoz Echeverria (Footon-Servetto) taking third place in a sprint from an early breakaway
Stage 13 Giro D'Italia - In the stage dedicated to Marco Pantani and finishing in his home town it was another local who took out the stage, Manuel Belletti (Ita) Colnago-CSF Inox pipped Sky Team s Gregory Henderson for first place with Iban Mayoz Echeverria (Footon-Servetto) taking third place in a sprint from an early breakaway.

The final placings were identical to the Ronde Van Gelderland held earlier this month, with Kirstin Wild (Cervelo Test team) in first and Rochelle Gilmore (Lotto Ladies) in second place.
Rose fever around the riders of SMP Saddles continues. Thanks to the Gold Generation of the Footon-Servetto-Fuji the SMP Saddles reached the place in the first line at Giro d’Italia 2010.
