Italy's Davide Gozzini and UK rider Christian Iddon stamped their authourity over the field on the weekend at the 2010 Australian Screening Australian Supermoto Championships at the Collie Motorplex in the South-West of Western Australia with Gozzini taking the spoils for the second time in a row.

Patchy rain played havoc with the riders on day one with numerous tyre changes required during the day. Two of the races were red flagged due to rain squalls, but in the end it was the two International riders who finished the three races in the top two spots.

Gozzini won all three races in a faultless display. Third rider overall for the round was Eastern States rider Rowan Tegart, who certainly made his presence felt with a fourth and two third place on the day.

Although Gozzini won all the races, he hard pushed by Iddon who did everything in his power to get past the Italain, who only seven days ago was racing for the World Supermoto Championship in Salou.

"It was great racing with Iddon who made it hard for me, but in the end the Franzone TM Racing machine proved to be superior," Gozzini said.

"Today was hard with the weather changing from wet to dry and then wet again. Two races were red flagged. I am very happy with today and tomorrow I hope to again have a good race. The track is fantastic and is a credit to all of the Supermoto Club of WA who have worked very hard to make this event possible. This track first class and is better than a lot of the tracks we use in Europe."

Iddon was also quick to praise the organisers, "It is a fantastic track, fast with good flowing corners and some great technical parts of the dirt section, which follows the natural undulation of the infield area. It is great to be asked to come back for the second successive year. Although I didn't bring any "wets" with me we got through the day in good shape and hopefully we can do the same again tomorrow or maybe even go one better," the Brit said

The second round of the Championship got underway on Sunday running in a clockwise direction with overcast conditions but no rain. The highlight of the day was certainly the S1 class again, with the wet conditions behind them Gozzini and Iddon put on a display of Supermoto riding the like of which has not been witnessed in Australia previously.

The pair treated the crowd to the most spectacular riding with brave inside passing moves by both riders just about every lap. The pair each tried to outsmart the other with several passing moves each lap, with the pair power sliding into just about every corner.

Gozzini was pushed all the way for his two wins with Iddon winning the second race ahead of Gozzini by 0.009 sec, local rider Liam Robertson was third in each race.

The S1 championship was successfully defended by Gozzini, who leaves Perth on Tuesday bound for New Zealand to try and defend his Tri-Series title. Gozzini won the title with 147 points, Iddon was second with 135 and Robertson was third with 111 points.
