A competitive track and field athlete as a junior Carly won gold and silver in the steeplechase and the 3000m respectively as an under 18 athlete. She started cycling in 2008 and was accepted into the ‘National Talent Identification and Development Program’ for the womens time trial.
Rapid results including a 3rd place at the Honda Hybrid Tour in Geelong in October 2009 saw Carly awarded an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Scholarship in November 2009. This was followed by a 3rd place in the TT in her first National Championships in 2010, just a year after starting the sport. This great result was folled by a 1st place in the National Criterium Championships the very next day, with a solo break for 18 of 30 laps.
For the 2010 season Carly has been racing in Europe with the Australian National Team.
etitive track and field athlete as a junior, my favourite events included the 800m, 1500m, 3000m and the Steeplechase. I represented my State (South Australia) at several National competitions and won gold and silver in the steeplechase and the 3000m respectively as an under 18 athlete. I started cycling approximately 2 years ago in mid 2008. From there I applied for the ‘National Talent Identification and Development Program’ which aims to identify and test up and coming athletes and assist them in getting the right coaching and development. I was accepted into this program for women’s time trial. From here I began competing in national level races and achieved some good results. In November of 2009, following a 3 week training camp with some of Australia’s best female cyclists, I was awarded, along with 5 other female cyclists, an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Scholarship. This support from the AIS has allowed me to travel with the Australian National Team to Europe throughout 2010 to gain some experience in international level racing. My aim for this season is to make the Australian squad for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October this year.
